You Never Stop Learning

As my album 'MIDNIGHT' is due for release very soon i've been trying to create my own website. Now i have to say i've never created a website before. However after a lot of thinking about how was going to achieve this i finally came up with an idea.  I now have a website (which you can see here: www.lawmusic-online.co.uk ). This has been another learning curve. Another skill. All good experience.

As well as the website i've been looking at artwork. I remember a quote that i heard years ago "The artwork is just as important as the music".
I'll be honest there has be times when i've have come across an unknown artist & chose to listen to their music because i really like the artwork.
An example of artwork that i really liked from a band (that i had heard of before) was: "Deloused In The Comatorium"- THE MARS VOLTA.  This artwork was designed by one of my favourite artists 'Storm Thorgerson' A very inspiring artist.
I will never be as good as Storm creating artwork. However i will try & learn different techniques to improve my artwork.

So whatever you do in life there will be times when you find a challenge in front of you. Do you give up? Or do you keep on? If you keep on you will learn something.

You never do stop learning

FEATURED ARTIST OF THE WEEK: JELLY CLEAVER

Hi! Everyone, this week's FEATURED ARTIST OF THE WEEK is the very talented  singer-songwriter, musician  & producer JELLY CLEAVER JELLY CLEAVER Please introduce yourself I’m a singer-songwriter, jazz guitarist and producer. I’m also an activist and this really influences my music and the lyrics I write. I love lots of different genres so have quite an eclectic style and like to throw myself into different music scenes. I’m really into the jazz scene and the punk/DIY scene in London at the moment.   How did you get into music? I started playing guitar as soon as I could hold one pretty much because my dad was a guitar teacher, and I’ve always had a really deep connection to music. I’ve tried lots of different aspects of music out though, from leading an African singing and drumming ensemble to starting a rock band. I just love music in all its forms.   What instruments do you play? Guitar’s my first instrument but when I’m reco...

LESS IS MORE

When mixing you need to create space. It's so easy to keep adding different instruments when recording. However, when it comes to mixing you'll probably end up with 2 or more instruments fighting for the same frequency. So what do you do? Well, Firstly it depends on the instruments. Sometimes you may have to be harsh & think: "Do i really need these 2 parts or can i mute one (or even delete)?" This is what i normally do. Now maybe you're thinking: "What about using EQ?" Or "Why not use panning?" Yes i could use these tools. However is this additional sound going to add anything to the mix? Is this part necessary? If not, then im afraid the part either gets muted or deleted. A few days ago i was recording some vocals, for a middle 8 (on a new song). Let's just say i got a bit carried away & ended up recording a few harmony parts too many. I can tell you now that some of those harmony parts will probably be muted. (Why were thos...
