MR TYPO is a voice synthesizer, created by LOVE HULTEN. I have to say this is one strange synthesizer.  Wall mounted. He is handmade by wood. The idea is you input a text file & it will speak the text back. The vocal synthesis is created by Bjorn Eriksson. It has vocal modulation eg, reverb, pitch shifter, chorus etc. It is battery powered.  I do find this synth a bit creepy. Hmmmmmmm! ALESIS have announced a drum multipad with sampler & looper called 'STRIKE'. If you're. drummer looking for a multipad that this could be the one for you. The 'STRIKE' mulipad has a built in soundcard, I think this is great idea. It features: 9 pads (5 trigger inputs) 32 GB internal storage 6 GB internal sounds 4.3 inch LCD screen over 8000 samples & loops 2 input/ 2 output usb midi interface sampler looper (audio) RGB lights 5 built in effects Ableton Live lite Pro Tools First The price (as of writing this) is round £599.  I know ROLAND have made a few drum mulitipads & YAMAHA have. PreSonus have announced a new midi pad controller, called the ATOM. I do believe this is the first midi pad controller PreSonus have ever released. Features include: 16 pads (all velocity sensitive, RGB, LED) 8 pad banks 20 buttons 4 rotary knobs 'Keyboard' Mode USB 2 Studio Artist One  (DAW) MAC & Windows compatible  If you are looking for a midi pad controller & DAW software then this could be for you. It looks very portable. Good for studio & Live use. Last week good ole STEINBERG announced CUBASE 10. As some of you may know I am a fan of CUBASE & have been for many years. So what's new in CUBASE 10? Here are a few new features: MIXCONSOLE SNAPSHOTS- As a mix engineer I think this is great idea. It easily allows you to recall different mixes VARIAUDIO 3- Vocal editing etc is now more flexible & features smart controls. The one feature I would still like to see is polyphonic editing. (Maybe STEINBERG will introduce this In the future) AUDIO ALIGNMENT- Easily align audio to a reference track EFFECTS IN THE MEDIA RACK- you can now drag & drop FX & instruments etc VIRTUAL REALITY SUITE NEW CHANNEL STRIP I think STEINBERG have introduced some good new features. However, one of the features I would like to see in the future is Audio to Midi (monophonic & polyphonic) STEINBERG do seem to listen to user requests. That is really good. Again CUBASE 10 comes in 3 versions: ELEMENTS, ARTIST & PRO

If you are looking for a mobile studio that works on your phone then IZOTOPE SPIRE could be for you. What do I need? First you need the IZOTOPE SPIRE MUSIC RECORDER App (iOS & android which I believe is free to download) Next you need the SPIRE STUDIO AUDIO Interface (a very portable audio interface) The audio interface itself is kinda cylinder shaped It features: Quick to setup Built in omnidirectional microphone  2 XLR Connections 2 in/ 2 out recording interface Wi-fi Soundcheck (button) Record up to 8 tracks (2 simultaneously) Edit & Mix (with the Spire Studio App or export them to your DAW) etc SPIRE STUDIO seems quite easy to use. Its very portable & looks very quick to set up. However I do feel it has some downsides. The first one being the price at around £350. Hmmmmm! I feel this is a bit expensive. A 50 piece orchestra will travel to 6 UK venues: Birmingham Cardiff  Glasgow Liverpool London Manchester  Nottingham Tickets are on sale now As a fan of dance music i would be interested to hear this.  Its not the first time that dance music has been arranged for orchestra, DJ SPOONY & PETE TONG have done this. ADAM AUDIO are well known for their studio monitors. I have used & continue to use their studio monitors. I do rate their products. Now, ADAM AUDIO have teamed up with headphone makers ULTRASONE to create the SP-5 headphones. They use ULTRASONE'S S-LOGIC technology. The headphones have a comfortable design & should hopefully reduce ear fatigue. A frequency response of 8Hz to 38 kHz. As some of you may or may not know, I'm a fan of synths. The brand FINGERSONIC have announced a brand new polyphonic hardware synth: ANALOGFUSION. ANALOGFUSION is a hybrid synth. Its features 2 separate engines- Analog & Digital (or you could combine them both) Other features include: 37 keys 14 track step sequencer FX USB LCD Display etc This synth is due for release Summer 2019 This is not really the first ever hybrid synth. Back in 2015 ROLAND bought out the JDXI. There were 2 versions of this: JDXI & JDXA.  Ive played the ROLAND JDXI a few times & i kinda liked it.  I think a hybrid synth is a good idea. Will the ANALOGFUSION be compared to the JDXI? It could be,  I'm not sure. Looking at the ANALOGFUSION at the moment i think i prefer the JDXI. We've all heard of music genres such as: ROCK, POP, JAZZ, DANCE etc. There are also some maybe unfamiliar music genres. Here are a few: LOWERCASE- Recently on youtube i came across this. Whats is it?  Well, its a combination of  minimalist, ambient, field recordings & sometimes silence. It amplifies very quiet sounds. The first time this was heard was by artist STEVE RODEN, with his album 'Forms of Paper'.  The album is handled paper that has been heavily distorted.  NINTENDOCORE-  This is a combination of 'Chiptune', 'Video game music', 'Hardcore punk' & 'Rock' (If you would like to hear this, check out 'HORSE THE BAND') SPLITTERCORE- Angry & Aggressive  music. 300bpm to 999bpm. Yes, it's fast, lol CATSTEP- Sounds  kinda Dubstep? to me. AKAI are known for their midi controllers. AKAI have now added the AKAI FIRE to their range. Whats different about it? This is the first ever dedicated midi controller for  the DAW FRUITY LOOPS. YAMAHA are back with a new hybrid synth. Introducing the  YAMAHA MODX. Remember the YAMAHA MONTAGE synth? Well this is the cheaper version take on the MONTAGE. The MODX will have the same synth engine as the MONTAGE. Features of the MODX include:  USB Audio interface Lightweight 61, 76 or 88 keys Effects (Reverb etc) etc I'll be honest, it does look a good synth, yes its sounds good. I'm disappointed. To me it just looks like another version of the YAMAHA MX, MOX, MOTIF & obviously the MONTAGE ranges.  Nothing that makes me think wow thats fantastic.  Maybe a brand new synth sometime YAMAHA? ROLAND are back with new synths. Yes a keytar & a portable synth. The keytar is the ROLAND AX EDGE. It features: 49 keys Over 100s of sounds & user tones Effects (Reverb, Chorus etc) Vocoder Ribbon Controller Bluetooth USB Port Mic & Headphone jacks Black & White Models available  At the time of writing this the keytar is around £879 The synth is the ROLAND DS76 76 Keys Lightweight (portable) 8 track pattern sequencer USB Audio/ DAW Control 8 phrase pads Ok, i will admit this not a brand new synth entirely. This is the 76 note version of the DS61 & DS88. I'm sorry Roland but i am disappointed. I thought we have some completely brand new synths.  Maybe next year? Tascam are well known for their mixers & portastudio. Im sure my first ever 4 track recorder was a Tascam with a cassette to record on (over 20 years ago now) Anyway, Tascam are back with what looks like a  22 channel mixer , in fact its more than just a mixer. It's also a Digital Multitrack recorder. You can record up to 24 Channels simultaneously. Cardboard piano anyone? Apart from playing games Nintendo switch has become a studio tool. This is thanks to Nintendo Labo. Basically you build the piano out of cardboard, Hmmmm! To be honest looking at it I'm not really sure. After seeing a demo of it, it does actually kinda work. It also has studio mode. Personally I think it would be to faffy for me to build,lololol, it does't look easy to build either. Yes I would play one if it was fully built. This is the first time ever an album has been released on Instagram. 'Syre: The Electric Album' is only available to listen to via Instagram. If you look at his profile (Instagram) you will see photos & videos that really is a big advert for the album ('Sure: The Electric Album') Whether you or a fan or not of JADEN SMITH, I still its a clever idea. Instagram is a very popular social media app at the moment. However, there is a downside to releasing the album this way & that is you cannot sell the songs via Instagram (Really you would not be making any money). I remember back in 1990 (aged around 9 or 10) being at a friends house & borrowing the cassette of NOW 18.  (I would then go on to purchase the cassette not long after). At etc time I thought this was a great compilation album (Stepping back in time with Kylie Minogue, Holding on with Wilson Phillips etc) I went on to collect NOW 18- NOW 24 on cassette (which I think I still have these) I got NOW 25-NOW 26 on CD (after that I didn't purchase them as much) Along the way we've not just had the numbered NOW albums, we've had: NOW DANCE, NOW CLUB HITS, NOW CHRISTMAS, NOW FITNESS, NOW RUNNING, NOW JAZZ, NOW REMIX etc Here are some facts: The biggest selling NOW album was NOW 44 released in November 1999. It was released on CD, Minidisc & cassette (I still have the CD today) NOW 43- NOW 48 were available on minidiscs NOW 64 was the last NOW album to be released on Cassette (2006) NOW 62 was the first NOW album to be released as digital download (2005) As

As some of you may or may not know I love music technology. Recently I purchased a second hand  8 channel DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) with motorised faders for good 'ole' Cubase. The idea is using this controller to mix audio with would make life a easier than clicking & using the mouse all the time. I was looking forward to using this controller because I've never had a controller with motorised faders or a proper control surface before. I did know when I bought the item that 1 of the faders needed to be looked at (it wasn't working properly, which I didn't mind too much) The controller arrived & I faffed about trying to set it up. (The manual was as much use as a tortoise with airbrakes). I did mange eventually to set it up with the right drivers, firmware etc (Thankyou youtube) Once I had set everything up I noticed another fader was not exactly doing what its suppose to. Hmmmmmmm! I thought maybe calibrating the faders, resetting them etc hopeful

Recently a new company called OH MY BYTES released details of 2 brand new midi controllers. They were: THE HICKORY & THE DICKORY.  I have to say these are a great idea, I'm excited😀😀 Why? Well, if you are a fan of Fabfilters Pro Q 2, Compressor C2 &  Pro L2 Limiter then these controllers are ideally for you. I have to say I am a fan of Fabfilters plugins (especially the Pro Q2, I use that EQ on a lot of my mixes, Im a huge fan of the Pro Q2) THE HICKORY- This midi controller is for the Pro Q2 (it can be used for other midi eq plugins) It comes with 1 High Pass Filter, 1 low pass filter & 5 parametric eq bands etc  THE DICKORY- The upper part of this controller is for the Pro C2 (compressor) & lower part for the Pro L2 (limiter) I don't normally put in a pre-order for music gear, however this time was an exception. Wow! I cannot believe Kylie is 50 now. What a great career she has had & still has. I remember as a young child back in the 80s listening to Kylie Minogue's music. Me & my friends singing: 'I should be so lucky, lucky, lucky lucky' at school.lol. School discos would be the girls forming a chain to dance to: 'The Locomotion', 😂😂. The couples dance would be: 'Especially for you'-KYLIE & JASON, 😂😂. So yes I've kinda grown up listening to Kylie Minogue. At senior school when I was around 15 I remember one of my school friends saying about when we were 18 we should go & see Kylie Minogue live. Honestly, me & my other friends kinda laughed & thought: "Hmmmmm! I wonder Kylie would still be as popular or any good when we are 18" How wrong were we! MOOG  are back with a brand new synth called 'Grandmother' (yes you read that correctly). Its is a analogue semi-modular synth. There are no presets or recall.  What you see is what you get. (Yes the MOOG Ladder Filter is included). It can be hooked up to other MOOG synths & EURORACK gear. Some features: 32 Keyboard  Spring Reverb External Audio  Arpeggiato Sequencer 2 Analog Oscillators Analog LFO MIDI IN/ OUT USB MIDI etc Looking at this synth is does look quite colourful (Yellow, Blue, Green, Red & Black), I think it certainly stands out.lol. The price? Around $999 Would I like to try it? Hi! Everyone, Hope you are ok. As some of you may or may not know I've been working on a brand new EP called TOKYO NIGHTS. The idea for the EP came whilst I was working on the collaboration with CODE D (' Fragments '). Before we started the songs itself I asked CODE D what other music he liked, he told me SYNTHWAVE (aka Retrowave or Outrun). I'll be honest  I had never really heard of synthwave music before & went to youtube to listen to some songs. The first song I really liked was 'Sunset'-THE MIDNIGHT, after that I started to like more synthwave music & artists. Its not just the music I like, its that 80s retro artwork (neon, etc) & also the synthesizers (Roland Juno 106, Roland Juno 60, Korg Polysix, Yamaha DX7 etc). This all inspired me to compose the TOKYO NIGHTS EP. Recently ABLETON 10 was released. Now, I'll be honest I've briefly played around with ABLETON over the years & never really got along with it. I have fiddled & twiddled about with it & don't really think that I've given the DAW a chance. Anyway, ABLETON 10 has come along & I know that ABLETON is popular with various musicians, DJ's & producers etc. So, I thought I would give ABLETON another go. (This time lasting more than 5-10 mins, lol). I decided to create a quick demo song. After spending more time with it I can see why DJ's etc might want to use ABLETON. Personally I think if I was going to use ABLETON, it would be for live performance (not really for the studio). Yes, I think ABLETON is good for live performance because you can also get the dedicated hardware controllers e.g PUSH, NOVATION LAUNCHPAD, AKAI APC40 etc & that can be useful. Would I recommend ABLETON 10? Yes, I think its a DAW worth trying Until next time LAW

Whats Trevolution? Well, ROLAND are back with with what looks like an updated version of the ROLAND AIRA TR8. Introducing the AIRA TR-8S, the design looks quite similar to the TR-08.The 8S has more features Includes all sounds from 808, 909, 707, 727 & 606 16 step sequencer SD Card slot (for your own mono/ stereo samples) 8 quarter inch jack outs 128 patterns etc I have to say this does look interesting, I liked the original TR-8, this has taken it a step further I really like the fact that it features all the sounds from the 5 kits & you can import your own samples. There are some strange lyrics about. A few months ago I came across a strange lyric, its taken from the song 'Midnight at the Oasis'- BRAND NEW HEAVIES (I know Maria Muldaur sang the original song, Credit: David Nichtern).
