Remember the YAMAHA DX7 or TX81z? If not, the DX7 was one of the most popular synths of all time. It was created in 1983, containing 32 preset patches. Recently I came across this gif ( I know it has been around on social media etc). It was created in 2008 by @IamHappyToast Its quite interesting. The gif itself is silent. However, some people say that they can hear a 'thud' when one of the pylons lands. Here's a link to the gif Personally I've listened a few times & don't hear anything. There are possible reasons why some people hear a 'thud' & some don't. It could be because of the camera shake etc Do you hear anything? Or feel anything? Steinberg are back with an updated version of CUBASE 9 (Updated to 9.5). So what have Steinberg added, improved etc? Here's a few new features: AUTOMATION CURVES & AUTOMATION RANGE TOOL METRONOME- For years Steinberg has had the same click sound. Now you can use your click sounds or use one of the presets (Tamborine, egg shaker, Cowbell, Clave, woodblock etc) 64 BIT MIXNG ENGINE INSERTS- 16 inserts (with flexible pre/ post fader) HALION SONIC SE 3- Halion Sonic SE now includes the 'FLUX' wavetable synthesiser SAMPLER TRACK- Drag any midi into the sampler track & it will be rendered as an audio file SOFTTUBE 1 CONSOLE-Control Cubase 9.5. The majority of gigs take place at an arena, stadium, pub etc. However, MODESTEP have performed a gig on a space net between 2 mountains. The space net was around 6500 feet above sea level & is only available to get there via helicopter. This took place at Cecil Peak, Queenstown To be honest it must be a awesome experience to play a gig like that. However, I think I would be very nervous & add to that freezing cold.lol. I would still want to try it. Recently Apple updated their Garageband app. I thought I would try the latest version on the iPad (there is a version on the iPhone) & see what I thought. I have to say its ok. There does seem to be some good sounds on there. I think what appeals is that its got a few sounds & drums etc. As of writing this, the GarageBand app is free to download.  That makes it to me appealing. I think even if you paid £2 or £3 for the app its still probably worth the money. Hi! Everyone. Recently some of you may or may not know that I've been working on THE SOLAR PROJECT  The project is explore different styles of dance music. One of my favourite genres of dance music is Trance. I first became a fan of trance music back in the mid 90s. Listening to songs by ROBERT MILES, JAM & SPOON, ENERGY 52, CHICANE, BT, PAUL VAN DYK etc. I knew that I could not work on a dance project & not include a trance song.  So, here it is: 'CRUSH' The song is available to purchase from CD Baby & Bandcamp There will be more songs from THE SOLAR PROJECT coming soon. These days there are lots of different types of headphones/ earphones/ EarPods etc on the market. A new business called NURA have created the NURAPHONES headphones. What makes these different is the fact that these headphones are custom-made to your hearing. Thinking about it we do hear the same sounds differently. NURA measure your hearing (low tones, mid tones & high tones). This is done via the NURA app. All the calibrating is done in less than a minute. The headphones themselves have like earbuds in. The Nuraphones connect to your phone via bluetooth. A lot of thought has gone into creating these headphones. YAMAHA are back with a new workstation & new name. Is this to replace the Tyros? The Tyros series has been going for a few years now. I think its good that Yamaha haven't just released another updated version of the Tyros & called it Tyros 6. The design looks a lot better on the Genos. With a 9" touch screen, assignable knobs & faders, 76 Keys etc. This workstation looks like its for all musicians, songwriters, can be used in the studio or for stage etc. Features include: Around 1700 sounds 550 backing patterns 216 Arpeggios 16 Track Sequencer 6 knobs & 9 sliders (For Live Control) DSP Effects 32 Bit Audio converter Vocal Harmony Synth Vocoder Multi pads Would I like to try this workstation? Oh yes.lol. Ive played the Tyros a few times. It did seem a bit to much button pushing. I completely welcome the new touchscreen. What is the DATO Duo? 12-bit two oscillator mono Synthesizer with a sequencer. Whats different about this synthesiser is that you can play also with 2 people. One person each side of the synth. You don't need to be a musician for this.  I have to say this is a new idea. It does look fun to play. Suitable for ages 3-99.  The doubled-sided interface has knobs, sliders & buttons. Midi  In/ Out . 3.5mm headphone jack. The synth is available at €329. I'll be honest I'm not sure about the price. It does seem fairly expensive. As some of you may or not be aware, I'm a fan of synthesisers (hardware & software). At the start of every year I say the same thing to myself "I do NOT need anymore synths, I've got enough" Well, that lasts all of 5 mins before I see a soft or hardware synth that I think "ooooooo I think I need to try that. That could be good".  Next thing I know, if its a software synth & its compatible with my pc I will download it & demo it. I'll be honest I've tried quite a few software synths in the past. The real problems starts when I start using a demo synth on a song I'm currently working on & think "oooooooo I like this synth.Yes this synth really works for this song". But, I have to ask my myself the question "Do I really need this synth"? The answer is probably no. Can you ever have too many synths (either hardware or software)? Why do I feel the need to want more synths? Yes, they're a few hardware synths

On my last album ' THE BLACK ROOM/ THE WHITE ROOM ' I wanted to experiment with industrial/ ebm on one of the my songs. The song was 'Bitter & Twisted'.  A few months after I was fortunate to meet industrial artist CODE D. We agreed to work on a collaboration. Again being an industrial/ ebm track.I have to say I have enjoyed collaborating with talented musican. Some of you may or may not know I'm into Electronic/ Dance music (I do like to listen to other genres of music e.g. Rock etc. But, my favourite is electronic). As a musician I've released 2 albums & 3 eps (plus some original backing tracks over the past few years. If you would like to listen to any of these please click here  ) I remember as a child at the age of 13 listening to Happy Hardcore/ Rave (back in the early 90s). In the mid to late 90s we had Classic Trance (as I call it.lol). Since then I've always been a fan of Trance music. These days we have lots of different genres of electronic/ dance music. They all seem to be a fusion of styles. We now have dubstep (with the 'wub wub' bass.lol) Recently one of my younger siblings said they were into Drumstep (I thought 'Drumstep? Whats that? Where's that come from? lol. Ok, its not as bad as what I thought.lol) I would like to create other electronic music too e.g. Trance, Ambient, techno, hous

Again ROLAND are back with 3 new products to add to the boutique range: TR-08 - If you are fan of drum machines I'm sure you've heard of the original TR-808 (Remember the raving days?lol) The original is still a classic to this day (and if in mint condition can fetch over £1000). I know that ROLAND have already released the AIRA TR-8 (which has the sounds etc of the TR808). It is bigger, more buttons etc. The TR-08 is smaller & looks a lot more portable, battery powered, built in speakers etc. (At the moment a rough guide for this is around £339).  SH-01A- This is the boutique version of the classic synth SH-101. This version has 4 voice polyphony (original was monophonic), 64 patch memories , 100 step sequencer etc. (Again, rough price guide is around £339)  I would like to try both of the new products. I'll be honest I still haven't tried any of ROLAND Boutique range. Ive seen them looking nice in a glass cabinet  a few times.lol (not to demo though.lol).

I remember around the beginning of 2001, at the age of 20 going into a local music shop called: 'More Than Music' & purchasing the CD album 'Hybrid Theory'-LINKIN PARK. The only songs I had heard before this was: 'One Step Closer' & 'Crawling' & thought they sounded really good songs.  After the purchasing 'Hybrid Theory' I remember listening to the album quite a lot.  My favourite songs: One Step Closer', 'Crawling', 'In The End', 'Runaway', By Myself' & 'Pushing me away'. (I played these songs on repeat, I loved them) To this day its still a great album & still one of my favourites.  Over the years I've listened to LINKIN PARK'S music & admired them.  Chester Bennington was a great front man, with a powerful voice & lyricist.
