Its that time of year again. Thats right NAMM 2014.The world's largest music products trade fair held in California. Did i go? Unfortunately not. However, i did try & keep up to date with what music products were being released. Here's a few that stood out to me:
BEHRINGER X TOUCH, X TOUCH COMPACT & X TOUCH MINI- Behringer are back with new control surfaces. Again they do look good. The X Touch & X Touch Compact do have 9 touch sensitive motorised faders (For me thats a plus point), Rotary Knobs & buttons etc. Could this be a future controller for my studio? We'll have to wait & see.
DS1 MIDI MIXER CONTROLLER- Dubspot & Livid Instruments have created this midi mixer. It has 9 faders, 44 rotary knobs & 25 buttons. I have to say it does look rather good. The only downside for me at the moment is that it doesn't have motorised faders (That would probably push the price up)
IZOTOPE BREAKTWEAKER (Software)- Another collaboration with composer & producer BT. The software offers three modules (Sequencer, Genarator & Microedit Engine). What is it? A beat sequencing & drum sculpting instrument. Create your own drum sounds, manipulate audio etc. The future of drums? Could be.
KORG-
- The keytar is back. RK-100S. It's a revamped version of their original keytar (RK-100, released in 1984). Comes in 3 colours. The Korg only has 37 keys whilst the Roland AX has 49. I suppose it does make the Korg more portable.
- MS-20 Kit- Fancy building your own replica of the original MS-20? Well now you can. No soldering experience necessary. This kinda does seem like a good idea. Will other synth manufactures allow us to build our own synths in the future? It may be a possibilty.
- GADGET SYNTH STUDIO- If you are into music ipad apps & electronic music. Then this could be for you. Fifteen synths & drums machines. Its offers fully featured recording and mixing. Looks interesting.
MOOG SUB 37-This is limited edtion. A mono/Duo paraphonic synth. Same engine as the Sub phatty. I do prefer the looks of this than the phatty. Looks more appealing to me.
NORD LEAD A1- It doesn't seem five minutes that Clavia announced the Nord Lead 4. So whats the difference between the two? Its seems like the A1 is a cut down version of the Lead 4. I have to say what a disappointment.
The one instrument i was mostly interested did get mentioned at NAMM. However, it was not on display. What am i talking about? The ROLAND AIRA. For the past few weeks various rumours have been circulating the internet about what exactly it is. Is it the Roland TR 808 or TR 909 reborn? Or both & the TB 303? Or just the TR 808 & TB 303? Or none of those? All i can say for now is that its coming soon. Let's hope its worth the anticipation.
So there you have some of my highlights of this years Namm. Did you go to Namm? Did you follow it? What were your favourite products?
Thats Namm over for another year. Roll on Musikmesse.
