ANIMUSIC!

A few years ago i came across a video (via youtube) which i was very impressed with. It was by Animusic. After i had watched that video i watched a few more videos by Animusic. I was equally impressed. I find the whole thing very clever.

What is Animusic? Animusic (originally called Visual Music) was founded in 1995 by Wayne Lytle and David Crognale. An American based company. Animusic is computer generated animations. The animations are in time to the music. All the music is instrumental. So far 2 VHS & DVDS have been created. I think a 3rd DVD is being made. The first VHS came out in 2001 (& later on DVD in 2004, with extra material). The second DVD was released in 2005.

One of their famous videos (& one of my favorites) is 'Pipe Dreams' http://youtu.be/hyCIpKAIFyo Another favourite video of mine is: 'Starship Groove' http://youtu.be/XBOQcQO0IFI

I would clearly like to state that both video (youtube) links i have used is owned & copyrighted by Animusic. The animation & music is also owned & copyrighted by Animusic. I do not own anything from either of these video's.

I would also like to thank Animusic for kindly giving me permission to use both these video's.

FEATURED ARTIST OF THE WEEK: JELLY CLEAVER

Hi! Everyone, this week's FEATURED ARTIST OF THE WEEK is the very talented  singer-songwriter, musician  & producer JELLY CLEAVER JELLY CLEAVER Please introduce yourself I’m a singer-songwriter, jazz guitarist and producer. I’m also an activist and this really influences my music and the lyrics I write. I love lots of different genres so have quite an eclectic style and like to throw myself into different music scenes. I’m really into the jazz scene and the punk/DIY scene in London at the moment.   How did you get into music? I started playing guitar as soon as I could hold one pretty much because my dad was a guitar teacher, and I’ve always had a really deep connection to music. I’ve tried lots of different aspects of music out though, from leading an African singing and drumming ensemble to starting a rock band. I just love music in all its forms.   What instruments do you play? Guitar’s my first instrument but when I’m reco...

LESS IS MORE

When mixing you need to create space. It's so easy to keep adding different instruments when recording. However, when it comes to mixing you'll probably end up with 2 or more instruments fighting for the same frequency. So what do you do? Well, Firstly it depends on the instruments. Sometimes you may have to be harsh & think: "Do i really need these 2 parts or can i mute one (or even delete)?" This is what i normally do. Now maybe you're thinking: "What about using EQ?" Or "Why not use panning?" Yes i could use these tools. However is this additional sound going to add anything to the mix? Is this part necessary? If not, then im afraid the part either gets muted or deleted. A few days ago i was recording some vocals, for a middle 8 (on a new song). Let's just say i got a bit carried away & ended up recording a few harmony parts too many. I can tell you now that some of those harmony parts will probably be muted. (Why were thos...
