FEATURED ARTIST OF THE WEEK: DEREK MARTIN

Hi! Everyone,
This weeks FEATURED ARTIST OF THE WEEK is Scottish born singer-songwriter DEREK MARTIN.

1.Please introduce yourself

My name is Derek Martin I am 39 years old and from Ayrshire in Scotland. I started writing 3 years ago and self recorded my debut album Dreaming Out Loud released this Year.

2. How did you get into music?

Growing up we always had the classic records records in the house - Bowie Stones Beatles but only really appreciated them when I was about 15 years old and heard Oasis Definitely Maybe and the explosion of guitar bands in the 90's. I think every kid wanted a guitar and wanted to be in a band.

3. What instruments do you play?

Guitar

4. Who are your influences?

Springsteen Stones Beatles Bowie Oasis Weller Smiths and so on

5. Tell us about your latest release

When I hear the songs collectively I think they describe what has happened to the 15 year old kid in the last 20 years. They are songs about life as a grown up and the ups and downs it brings - the realization you are now responsible for other people other than your self and the pressure that brings. I wanted to make every song and anthem big melodies guitars and drums and every one of the 10 songs delivers.

6. Whats your songwriting process?

I sing to myself all the time and when I get a melody that sticks I work out the chords and think about what I want to say. My phone is full of little clips of me humming and singing lines that I bring together and somehow get a song out the other end.

7. Which musician/ artist would you most like to collaborate with & why?

Bruce Springsteen - once of the greatest songwriters ever to see how he works would be the ultimate. He'd also bring a few people to the first gig.

8. If you were on a desert island what 3 musical gear would you take?

guitar obviously, my microphone and tape recorder.

9. Where can fans find your music (links etc)?

on all streaming platforms spotify below

I would like to say huge thank you to DEREK MARTIN for taking part in 'Featured Artist of The Week' 😀😀

Until next time

Hi! Everyone, this week's FEATURED ARTIST OF THE WEEK is the very talented  singer-songwriter, musician  & producer JELLY CLEAVER JELLY CLEAVER Please introduce yourself I’m a singer-songwriter, jazz guitarist and producer. I’m also an activist and this really influences my music and the lyrics I write. I love lots of different genres so have quite an eclectic style and like to throw myself into different music scenes. I’m really into the jazz scene and the punk/DIY scene in London at the moment.   How did you get into music? I started playing guitar as soon as I could hold one pretty much because my dad was a guitar teacher, and I’ve always had a really deep connection to music. I’ve tried lots of different aspects of music out though, from leading an African singing and drumming ensemble to starting a rock band. I just love music in all its forms.   What instruments do you play? Guitar’s my first instrument but when I’m reco...
