1.Please introduce yourself
Hi! I'm Regan, the singer and primary songwriter of the pop duo Ryker Sear.

2. How did you get into music?
I've been obsessed with music since my tiny tot days....I was inspired by hearing my dad play acoustic guitar in the garden of our old house, by watching the 80s classic 'Barbie & The Rockers', and singing Kylie Minogue songs on my junior karaoke machine! I wrote and recorded my first songs at school. Then I went to University for a bit, before realising I wanted to leave and form a band.

3. What instruments do you play?
I sing and play guitar. I can also play the piano and keyboard, well enough to write songs. I can also play the flute! That was from my school days. It came from my dad's love for Jethro Tull. He bought a flute but didn't know how to play, so I decided to learn!

4. Who are your influences?
I have way too many..but if I had to keep it short, it would be Britney Spears, Aerosmith, Busted, Alan Menken, Michelle Branch.

5. Tell us about your latest release
Our most recent single, ''Piece of Me'', is a nostalgic and melancholy look at remembering a lost love. Watching the movie, 'Like Crazy' is what prompted me to write it. The story really got to me because I related to some of what the characters went through. Its not meant to be a massive downer though...I think the music and lyrics point to an uplifting feeling too!

6. Whats your songwriting process?
Sometimes melody, lyrics and chords come to me instantly together, which is brilliant (like in the case of our previous single ''Don't Know Me''), or it starts with a melody idea, and then sometimes its a lyric. I usually make a simple demo consisting of vocals, guitar, keys (usually with rough, unfinished lyrics) and then I take it to James and we work on more of the music and polishing up.

7. Which musician/ artist would you most like to collaborate with & why?
Hmmm...I would go for the SERIOUSLY underappreciated songwriter James Bourne (from Busted). Not only am I a fan of all his work, we share some similar influences like Disney and Max Martin. I've always felt that, like me, he has a great sense of fun, attitude, and emotion. I really think we could write some awesome songs together. Here's hoping!

8. If you were on a desert island what 3 musical gear would you take?
Acoustic guitar, piano, and a solar powered cd/mp3 player. You've also got to promise me that there will be tea and Custard Creams too.

9. Where can fans find your music (links etc)?

FEATURED ARTIST OF THE WEEK: JELLY CLEAVER

Hi! Everyone, this week's FEATURED ARTIST OF THE WEEK is the very talented  singer-songwriter, musician  & producer JELLY CLEAVER JELLY CLEAVER Please introduce yourself I’m a singer-songwriter, jazz guitarist and producer. I’m also an activist and this really influences my music and the lyrics I write. I love lots of different genres so have quite an eclectic style and like to throw myself into different music scenes. I’m really into the jazz scene and the punk/DIY scene in London at the moment.   How did you get into music? I started playing guitar as soon as I could hold one pretty much because my dad was a guitar teacher, and I’ve always had a really deep connection to music. I’ve tried lots of different aspects of music out though, from leading an African singing and drumming ensemble to starting a rock band. I just love music in all its forms.   What instruments do you play? Guitar’s my first instrument but when I’m reco...

LESS IS MORE

When mixing you need to create space. It's so easy to keep adding different instruments when recording. However, when it comes to mixing you'll probably end up with 2 or more instruments fighting for the same frequency. So what do you do? Well, Firstly it depends on the instruments. Sometimes you may have to be harsh & think: "Do i really need these 2 parts or can i mute one (or even delete)?" This is what i normally do. Now maybe you're thinking: "What about using EQ?" Or "Why not use panning?" Yes i could use these tools. However is this additional sound going to add anything to the mix? Is this part necessary? If not, then im afraid the part either gets muted or deleted. A few days ago i was recording some vocals, for a middle 8 (on a new song). Let's just say i got a bit carried away & ended up recording a few harmony parts too many. I can tell you now that some of those harmony parts will probably be muted. (Why were thos...
