FEATURED ARTIST OF THE WEEK: LEAVING RICHMOND

Hi! Everyone,
This weeks FEATURED ARTIST OF THE WEEK is the  multi-talented JORDAN PIER from the instrumental band LEAVING RICHMOND

1. My name is Jordan Pier.  I live in Los Angeles and I helm the instrumental music project, leaving richmond.

2.I’ve had a deep love for music for as long as I can remember.  Particularly soundtracks and scores. Anything that let me come up with my own mental imagery while listening.  My first real foray into playing music was in my elementary school band with the alto sax.  There was a public access jazz station in NY I that I used to love so that’s probably why I chose that instrument.

3. I am proficient in guitar and I can handle myself on keyboards.  I bet I could play a few tunes if I picked up a sax again too.

4. There’s an electronic artist by the name Bonobo who is a constant source of inspiration for me.  Nine Inch Nails has left an indelible mark on my ear as has composers like Jon Brian, Cliff Martinez and Clint Mansell.  Essentially anyone who can tell a story without words.

5. My latest release is called Great Distances.  7 lovingly crafted electronic tracks that run the gamut from slick and skip beats, cinematic storytelling and contemplative chill.  It’s available via Bad Bat Records on limited edition cassette, digital download as well as on all the streaming outlets.  That will be available on May 17th!

6.  You can find all the music on www.leavingrichmond.comwww.leavingrichmond.bandcamp.com and by searching ‘leaving richmond’ on Spotify.  I hope you will come by and let me soundtrack your day!

I would like to say a huge thank you to JORDAN PIER for taking part in this weeks  'Featured Artist of The Week' 😀😀😀😀

Until next time

FEATURED ARTIST OF THE WEEK: JELLY CLEAVER

Hi! Everyone, this week's FEATURED ARTIST OF THE WEEK is the very talented  singer-songwriter, musician  & producer JELLY CLEAVER JELLY CLEAVER Please introduce yourself I’m a singer-songwriter, jazz guitarist and producer. I’m also an activist and this really influences my music and the lyrics I write. I love lots of different genres so have quite an eclectic style and like to throw myself into different music scenes. I’m really into the jazz scene and the punk/DIY scene in London at the moment.   How did you get into music? I started playing guitar as soon as I could hold one pretty much because my dad was a guitar teacher, and I’ve always had a really deep connection to music. I’ve tried lots of different aspects of music out though, from leading an African singing and drumming ensemble to starting a rock band. I just love music in all its forms.   What instruments do you play? Guitar’s my first instrument but when I’m reco...

LESS IS MORE

When mixing you need to create space. It's so easy to keep adding different instruments when recording. However, when it comes to mixing you'll probably end up with 2 or more instruments fighting for the same frequency. So what do you do? Well, Firstly it depends on the instruments. Sometimes you may have to be harsh & think: "Do i really need these 2 parts or can i mute one (or even delete)?" This is what i normally do. Now maybe you're thinking: "What about using EQ?" Or "Why not use panning?" Yes i could use these tools. However is this additional sound going to add anything to the mix? Is this part necessary? If not, then im afraid the part either gets muted or deleted. A few days ago i was recording some vocals, for a middle 8 (on a new song). Let's just say i got a bit carried away & ended up recording a few harmony parts too many. I can tell you now that some of those harmony parts will probably be muted. (Why were thos...
