FEATURED ARTIST OF THE WEEK: PARALLAX

This weeks FEATURED ARTIST OF THE WEEK is metal band PARALLAX

1.Please introduce yourself

I'm Simon from the metal band Parallax!

2. How did you get into music?

True story, my neighbour used to blast out Iron Maiden from their bedroom and I sat outside just listening. I eventually got my hands on a copy of "A real live/dead one" and that was it for me. 

3. What instruments do you play?

Bass, badly

4. Who are your influences?

In the band, Lamb of God, Pantera, Killswitch Engage, but generally Iron Maiden, Dream Theatre, Protest the Hero, Byzantine, old Metallica etc

5. Tell us about your latest release

We're in the process of finishing our first record. The band is almost a merge of 2 others that often gigged together, AR & ScarCity. It's really interesting how it has turned out and we can't wait to release it. 

6. Whats your songwriting process? 
Get in a room and just jam! We do have two rules though, a song must have groove and melody. 

7. Which musician/ artist would you most like to collaborate with & why?

That is a tough one, not sure where I would even start on that. Personally, I would love to get in the mind of Steve Harris (bassist, Iron Maiden) as that guy is behind so many amazing songs.  

8. If you were on a desert island what 3 musical gear would you take? 
My bass, my zoom b3 and my macbook

Hi! Everyone, this week's FEATURED ARTIST OF THE WEEK is the very talented  singer-songwriter, musician  & producer JELLY CLEAVER JELLY CLEAVER Please introduce yourself I’m a singer-songwriter, jazz guitarist and producer. I’m also an activist and this really influences my music and the lyrics I write. I love lots of different genres so have quite an eclectic style and like to throw myself into different music scenes. I’m really into the jazz scene and the punk/DIY scene in London at the moment.   How did you get into music? When mixing you need to create space. It's so easy to keep adding different instruments when recording. However, when it comes to mixing you'll probably end up with 2 or more instruments fighting for the same frequency. So what do you do? Well, Firstly it depends on the instruments. Sometimes you may have to be harsh & think: "Do i really need these 2 parts or can i mute one (or even delete)?" This is what i normally do. Now maybe you're thinking: "What about using EQ?" Or "Why not use panning?" Yes i could use these tools. However is this additional sound going to add anything to the mix? Is this part necessary? If not, then im afraid the part either gets muted or deleted. A few days ago i was recording some vocals, for a middle 8 (on a new song). Let's just say i got a bit carried away & ended up recording a few harmony parts too many. I can tell you now that some of those harmony parts will probably be muted. (Why were thos...
