When I first started recording my music I used a 4 track tape (which i've still got, I think). I remember as a teenager recording a guitar, keyboard & vocals (we are talking in the 90s now). You were kinda limited to 4 tracks. Then once finished your song bouncing it down to 2 track. You would have to use cassettes to record onto.
These days we mainly use a computer (I know that some people still record using maybe a four track or 12 track recorder etc. Thats fine).
