NEW YEAR, NEW GEAR 2017!

Yes, its that time of year again: WINTER NAMM 2017. Already rumours, predictions, teasers etc are circulating the internet.
Here's a few rumours, thoughts etc that we may see:

  • SCHECTER- According their website they have already announced their new guitar line-up for 2017 (including few new artist models)
  • IK MULTIMEDIA- Rumour has it they will be taking technology for acoustic guitar players "a major step further"
  • TC ELECTRONIC- After launching 13 pedals this year, they may have something  new for 2017
  • BLACKSTAR- Will they bring out some new amps?
  • ROLAND-A new synth? Another addition to the Boutique Range?
  • KORG- In 2016 they bought us a new synth, midi keyboard, music workstation etc. What have Korg got planned for this year? A new version of the Kronos?
  • YAMAHA- Again a new synth, piano etc?
  • ACCESS VIRUS- Its been a few years now since they have bought anything new out. In fact i think the TI2 came out around 2009. In 2016 you had a chance to buy the Virus Darkstar synth again. I wonder if they will ever be a TI3 or a completely new synth from ACCESS
There also maybe a few surprises from a few manufacturers. We will have to wait & see

Until next time

FEATURED ARTIST OF THE WEEK: JELLY CLEAVER

Hi! Everyone, this week's FEATURED ARTIST OF THE WEEK is the very talented  singer-songwriter, musician  & producer JELLY CLEAVER JELLY CLEAVER Please introduce yourself I’m a singer-songwriter, jazz guitarist and producer. I’m also an activist and this really influences my music and the lyrics I write. I love lots of different genres so have quite an eclectic style and like to throw myself into different music scenes. I’m really into the jazz scene and the punk/DIY scene in London at the moment.   How did you get into music? I started playing guitar as soon as I could hold one pretty much because my dad was a guitar teacher, and I’ve always had a really deep connection to music. I’ve tried lots of different aspects of music out though, from leading an African singing and drumming ensemble to starting a rock band. I just love music in all its forms.   What instruments do you play? Guitar’s my first instrument but when I’m reco...

LESS IS MORE

When mixing you need to create space. It's so easy to keep adding different instruments when recording. However, when it comes to mixing you'll probably end up with 2 or more instruments fighting for the same frequency. So what do you do? Well, Firstly it depends on the instruments. Sometimes you may have to be harsh & think: "Do i really need these 2 parts or can i mute one (or even delete)?" This is what i normally do. Now maybe you're thinking: "What about using EQ?" Or "Why not use panning?" Yes i could use these tools. However is this additional sound going to add anything to the mix? Is this part necessary? If not, then im afraid the part either gets muted or deleted. A few days ago i was recording some vocals, for a middle 8 (on a new song). Let's just say i got a bit carried away & ended up recording a few harmony parts too many. I can tell you now that some of those harmony parts will probably be muted. (Why were thos...
